High School Sweethearts Wed...70 Years Later

A North Carolina woman just married her teenage sweetheart, after spending decades apart. Katie Smith, 89 and Ed Sellers, 88, met when they were 15 and 14 and dated for three years. But her strict parents wouldn’t let them go on dates alone, so their courtship came to an end.

In 1964, Smith and Sellers both went on to marry other people, but her husband died 17 years ago and his wife passed away four years ago. About a year ago, Sellers finally found the courage to call his ex-girlfriend, after all that time. And the couple rekindled their romance.

They tied the knot and now they’ll live happily ever after. “She was thrilled. It couldn’t have been more adorable,” says Stefanie Helse, Smith’s granddaughter. "It was really awesome to see her be happy and getting a second chance at companionship.”
