The Corpus Christi-Nueces County Public Health District reports they have received confirmation of three flu related deaths in Nueces County.

     Health officials report in the last two weeks we Nueces County has had 3 flu related deaths in women between the ages of 65-85 years of age.

     Dr. William Burgin, Jr., Local Health Authority, states, “We extend our deepest sympathy to the families of the deceased.”

     Dr. Burgin advises residents that everyone should protect themselves against the flu by getting the flu shot.  He further states “Flu season activity normally peaks January-February in Nueces County, however, this year the flu season has begun to peak a little earlier than last year.”

                      Dr.  Burgin advises residents to take precautionary measures to keep from spreading germs:

  • ·         If you are sick, stay home to keep from getting others sick.
  • ·         Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
  • ·         Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you sneeze or cough.
  • ·         Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand rub.
