English Doctors Prescriptions For Loneliness

As early as 2023, doctors in England will be able to start writing prescriptions for “cooking classes” to patients suffering from loneliness.

It’s called “social prescribing” – meaning, doctors can recommend group activities like cooking classes and art clubs instead of medication. $2-point-four million dollars has gone into the new strategy for the cause that’s apparently a rising problem for England.

According to the government, 200,000 elderly people across the country haven’t communicated with a friend or relative in more than a month. That’s why Prime Minister Theresa May is backing up the anti-loneliness initiative, saying that loneliness is “one of the greatest public health challenges of our time,” linked to heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s disease and more.
