Americans Spend A Lot Of Money To Get Healthy

There are plenty of Americans who are committed to getting themselves healthy and in good shape but it turns out achieving that goal doesn’t come cheap.

According to a new survey, the average American between the ages of 18 to 65 spends $155 per month towards health and fitness. While that may not sound like a lot, over the course of a lifetime that comes out to about $112,000, which is actually more than the average cost of a four-year college tuition, which is about $98,440.

So what are they spending all that money on? Well, on average, Americans spend about $33 a month on gyms, although many are paying much more than that. In addition, they are shelling out $56 a month towards health supplements, $35 on workout clothing and accessories, plus $14 a month for trainers and $17 a month for healthy meal plans.

And while this sounds pricey, the truth is a lot of younger people are spending a lot more, thanks to boutique finesses classes. In fact a 2016 study found that millennials tend to prefer specialized fitness classes, which cost way more than a regular gym membership.
