The Donug Is A Doughnut Chicken Nugget Hybrid

Food mashups are nothing new and neither are creative takes on the doughnut. The cronut kicked off that craze and people have taken it as far as to turn sushi into a doughnut. But now there’s another doughnut-themed frankenfood: the “donug.”

Created by Craig Carrick, it’s kind of a “free-range chicken nugget breaded with corn flakes and panko breadcrumbs for texture.” But it’s not topped with sprinkles or frosting, it comes slathered with your choice of a spicy chili sauce, cheesy dijon, or a mozzarella-based Japanese curry.

If this savory donug sounds appealing to you, you’ll need your passport to try one. The donug is currently only available in Carrick’s current hometown of Melbourne, Australia. But he did just appear with the creation on “Shark Tank Australia,” so we could see them take off globally soon. And Americans seem to love oddly-shaped chicken, so donugs are sure to be a hit stateside.
