ARTICLE: How To Get Out Of Your Relationship Rut

If you’ve been with your partner for a long time and things feel like they’ve kind of reached a plateau or have fallen into a rut, it can feel hard to know how to get your relationship back on track. Making changes to your routine or life can help shift things for the better, and if you’re not sure where to start, these fixes may help.

Moving - Sure, it’s extreme, but if you feel like you need a big change, this is kind of the ultimate. A new place or whole new location can give you a fresh start, both physically and mentally.

Picking up a new hobby together - If picking up and changing cities isn’t for you, something smaller you can do as a couple is find a new hobby. You’ll be learning something together and shaking up your routine, which is what it’s all about.

Going on an adventure - Traveling can make your romance feel new again. Getting away from day-to-day life can refresh and recharge you when you return.

Finding a new job - If you really don’t like your job, it can affect all parts of your life. And if you’re so unhappy with work that your relationship is taking a hit from your anxiety or complaining about it, changing jobs may be the fix.

Reconnect physically - No one’s saying you should be doing it all the time, but having an active sex life is important. Try to bring back the physical intimacy by touching more, including hugging and cuddling on the couch, being more playful with each other, and of course, making more of an effort to have sex.

Spending more phone-free time together - Try spending screen-free time with your partner by taking walks and agreeing to go to dinner without pulling out your phones. Taking away those distractions can help you focus on each other more.

Create a bucket list - Come up with some goals you want to accomplish as a couple and make them happen. It can be small stuff, like taking a pottery class, or something you’ve always wanted to do, like visiting Spain. Achieving those things will help you feel productive together in a whole new way.

Reinstate date night - Time to bring back the dedicated date night. Setting aside that time for your S.O. and sticking to it can have a huge impact and give you something to look forward to all week.
