Man Finally Gets High School Diploma At 90

Lou Schipper worked really hard just to get to high school every day back in the 1940s. He had to walk a mile from his home in Aurora, Indiana to catch a train to Cincinnati to attend St. Xavier High School. And when he had the chance, he enlisted in World War II, joining when he was 17 and before he graduated.

But at 90, this veteran has finally received his high school diploma. He reconnected with a former classmate, George Wood and that’s how he found out veterans could get their diplomas. Wood talked to officials at St. Xavier High School about his friend and they were happy to honor him. So over 70 years later, Schipper was finally able to “graduate.”

And even though he was hesitant at first, his wife Dottie says he was really excited to get that diploma after all this time. "I really appreciate it," Schipper says. "I never thought I'd make it."
