Apple Watch Heart Sensor Helps Save Man’s Life

The Apple Watch is handy for keeping tabs on your fitness, but did you know it can also save lives? James Green was wearing his and using the iOS app HeartWatch to monitor his heart rate readings from his Apple Watch and it ended up warning him to a dire health situation.

Green’s heart rate was super high, even when he was just sitting at his desk. When he went to have it checked out, doctors found a pulmonary embolism, a serious condition that occurs when a blood clot is in the lungs. And a rapid or irregular heartbeat is one of the few symptoms that help warn of it.

He was treated with blood thinners and is doing fine now. But his doctor says the condition “would have been fatal” if Green didn’t seek immediate medical attention. So that Apple Watch warning really saved him.
