We’re sure folks have seen plenty of interesting, and some times totally out there stuff at a Walmart, but believe it or not, one Walmart recently hosted a wedding, and the story of the happy couple has since gone viral.
Chrissy Slonaker Torres and Leida Torres met when they were co-workers at the West Manchester Township, Pennsylvania Walmart, and when they decided to get hitched they did so in the garden center at the store. The couple didn’t pick the store to try and save money on the venue, rather they chose it so all their co-workers and friends would be able to attend.
The couple says they consider their co-workers as “family,” and when planning the big day they realized that many of them wouldn’t be able to make it to the celebration because the store is open 24 hours so some of them would have to work. That’s when Chrissy came up with the idea for the in-store wedding.
- “We both have a lot of really close friends that we call family in our Walmart store,” she says. “We discussed it with the store manager and the home office so that everybody in our store — everybody that we share our lives with — can be a part of the wedding.”
- Chrissy says co-workers “felt blessed” to be included in the special day, and helped them transform the garden center with an outdoor tent and rug, as well as red and white flowers. “It was beautiful,” Leida said. “I just loved it.”
- Photos of the wedding posted on social media were soon shared thousands of times, and while some folks were nasty, calling them “rednecks” who couldn’t afford a real wedding, most of the other comments were positive. “You shouldn’t judge something by the way it looks because there could be a beautiful story behind it,” Chrissy notes. “We met in Walmart, we fell in love at Walmart. We could’ve gotten married any other place, but we chose to get married at Walmart.” Added Leida, “Our family is happy. That’s all that matters to us.”
