Man Has Leaking Brain Fluid For Five Years

When a man from North Carolina practically ruined his family’s Thanksgiving dinner due to his drippy nose, he figured it was just another result of his annoying case of allergies. But a visit to the hospital revealed that his symptoms pointed to something more serious than that.

Greg Phillpotts says that his five-year battle with the so-called allergies “became normal,” even as his nose accidentally dripped onto Thanksgiving dinner. “I was preparing a meal and standing in the kitchen and it just added itself to the ingredients. It screwed up the whole dinner,” he recalls. “You could be anywhere, talking to anybody and this thing just drains out of your face.”

But once he started developing a cough that kept him up all night, he finally made an appointment at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York in February to figure out what was really going on. There, he was told his runny nose was actually a cerebral fluid leak – as in, his brain was leaking fluid. Luckily, he was able to undergo corrective surgery to help him breathe again, which he adds is “a relief.”
