When retired Army SergeantTheresa Verelinecrossed the finish line at the New York City Marathon, she made history. Not only was she the first ever paralyzed American to finish the race, she was the first veteran in the world to do it with an exoskeleton.
Vereline completed without the use of her legs or a wheelchair, using the ReWalk 5.0 exoskeleton suit, which is designed to help paraplegics get around using crutches to help balance.
“Words cannot express the feelings I had crossing the finish line,” Verelineexplains. “This has been a dream of mine, and I hope I can serve as an inspiration to others that you too can achieve what seems like the impossible.”
