The Boston Red Sox's front office apparently went through "dysfunction" leading up to the surprising trade of All-Star Rafael Devers to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday (June 15), according to Yahoo Sports' Joon Lee.

“An absolute s**tshow,” a Red Sox staffer said after the team's weekend sweep of the first-place New York Yankees.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow reportedly fired former scouting supervisor Carl Moesche after Moesche said, "Thanks, Bres, you f**king stiff," to conclude a Zoom meeting was among the alleged "dysfunction." Breslow, who was hired to replace predecessor Chaim Bloom, reportedly "has grown increasingly insulated," with longtime staffers who were present during the franchise's 2004, 2007, 2013 and 2018 World Series championship teams, feeling "shut out of the operation."

“The collaborative spirit that once defined Red Sox baseball operations has frayed,” Lee wrote.

Breslow has also reportedly clashed with Red Sox manager Alex Cora, who led the franchise to its last two World Series championships and played on the 2007 World Series championship team, emphasizing on a win-now mindset with the team having only made the playoffs once his initial hiring in 2018. Additionally, the franchise hired the sports consulting firm Sportsology last May as part of an audit of the organization aiming to help align baseball operations, which has led to several firings and the "marginalization" of several respected employees.

The Red Sox traded Devers, 28, for LHP Kyle Harrison, RHP Jordan Hicks, minor league OF James Tibbs III, and minor league RHP Jose Bello on Sunday. The three-time All-Star is currently hitting for a .272 average with 15 home runs and 58 RBIs and is widely regarded as one of the league's best hitters, having won the Silver Slugger Award for the second time in his career last season.
