Phone Brings Comfort

A rotary phone in the forests of the Pacific Northwest is helping people heal. Placed in Priest Point Park outside Olympia by photographer Corey Dembeck, the purpose of the phone is to make 'long-distance' calls to lost loved ones. Dembeck was inspired by a similar 'Telephone of the Wind' in Japan that became a popular spot for survivors of the 2011 tsunami to grieve. The phone is used by many, including the Sylvester family, who lost their four-year-old daughter Joelle last year to an infection. Joelle was friends with one of Dembeck's daughters.
