BigFrankShow2GO: "Cowboys Trade Shocker, Cracker Barrel Logo Revolt & Why Gmail Passwords Are Like High School Relationships"
Friday, August 29, 2025 - Labor Day Weekend Edition - Available on iHeartRadio
Labor Day Weekend is officially here! It's National Lemon Juice Day, we're 63 days from Halloween, and on this date in 1966, The Beatles played their final concert. Plus, Friday Night Lights kicks off across Texas tonight with a new twist—officials can now remove disruptive spectators without warning, so keep it classy.
NFL Bombshell: The Dallas Cowboys just dropped a massive trade bomb, sending Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in exchange for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and two first-round draft picks. This is a franchise-altering move that's got football fans buzzing heading into the weekend.
Cracker Barrel's Logo Disaster: The restaurant chain tried to mess with tradition by ditching their iconic "Old Timer" logo for plain text, and customers revolted so hard that even President Trump chimed in. Stock prices tanked, and within a week they announced they're bringing the Old Timer back. As I said on-air: Cracker Barrel could use a smiley face emoji for a logo and I'd still pull off SPID for that hashbrown casserole.
Local Weekend Highlights: The Corpus Christi IceRays are hosting a Select-A-Seat Open House tomorrow from 11-2 at the American Bank Center with their Red vs. Black scrimmage, player meet-and-greets, and the new Kids Zone. My hometown of Tilden is celebrating the 75th Annual Lions Club Rodeo with free admission all weekend, plus Kevin Fowler and Moe Bandy performing at Saturday's dance.
Community Events: Heroes Weekend at Hurricane Alley offers free admission for first responders, veterans, and active military. Rockport features Biplanes and Breakfast at the airport supporting aviation scholarships, while Bay Area Brewing hosts Jimmy Buffett Day as a flood relief fundraiser for Hill Country families.
Traffic Safety Alert: Starting Tuesday, the US 59/FM 624 intersection in Live Oak County becomes an all-way stop. Law enforcement will be monitoring as drivers adjust to the new traffic pattern designed to reduce crashes.
Hero Story of the Week: In Alabama, referee Joey Shelnutt collapsed during a high school football game, but his best friend and fellow referee Lew Murphy immediately performed CPR on the field, saving his life. Joey had three major heart blockages and is scheduled for bypass surgery, but he's alive today because his friend of 40 years was there when it mattered most. Sometimes the hero isn't scoring touchdowns—it's the guy in stripes.
Tech Warning: Google is urging all 2.5 billion Gmail users to change passwords after hackers used fake sign-in pages. Time to retire that password that's just your dog's name plus "123." Nothing makes you feel more exposed than changing a password, especially when you forget your own "secure" creation a week later.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS: You know, I can’t help but get a little fired up today. It’s the first real Friday Night Lights of the season here in Texas. A few games kicked off last night, but tonight…tonight is when it really feels like football season has arrived. For me, football isn’t just about the game itself—it’s about what happens around it. The whole town gathering, the marching band echoing through the stadium, the cheerleaders on the sideline, the families in the stands, and kids running around with footballs behind the bleachers. It’s about community. This year hits even closer to home, because our son is suiting up for 7th grade football. I couldn’t be more excited to watch him take the field. Those memories he’s making are the same ones for all the players, the cheerleaders, the band and they’ll carry those with them forever. So before we head into kickoff tonight, let’s celebrate what makes it all special.
