EDINBURG – In anticipation of tonight’s expected rainfall from Hurricane Hanna, shelters are opening their doors to Hidalgo County residents in need of refuge.
The following shelters are now open:
·Weslaco High School - 1005 W. Pike Blvd, Weslaco
·McAllen Respite Center - 111 S. 15th St., McAllen
·The Salvation Army - 1600 N. 23rd St., McAllen
More shelters have opened:
- Chacón Middle School (for non-COVID residents) - 801 S. Mile 1 East, Mercedes
- Mercedes Dome(for COVID exposes families) - 1202 N. Vermont, Mercedes
No pets allowed. Masks are mandatory.
Also, due to a power outage at Weslaco High School the shelter has been moved to:

415 S. International Blvd.
Weslaco, TX
Due to COVID-19 pandemic, masks will be mandatory inside the shelters. Residents should also bring other PPE such as gloves and hand sanitizer to maintain proper hygiene. While inside the shelter, social distancing must be maintained as much as possible.
Residents should also bring water, snacks, blankets, medication and any important documents.
