Be very careful about what you take from the beach when you visit Florida. One Dallas resident figured that out the hard way after she was arrested and sentenced to jail for collecting 40 queen conchs seashells from Key West. Turns out those types of shells are very important to the eco-system in Florida and are protected.
Diana Fiscal-Gonzalez says she just wanted to give them away as gifts when she got home but instead will spend 15 days in jail, pay a $500 fine and spend six months on probation. That is one expensive trip to the Florida Keys.
